Startup and MSME Registration Support

Help with preparing a DPIIT Startup India recognition application and with Udyam registration for eligible businesses.

  • Business Registration
  • Application preparation usually takes 3–7 working days after we receive complete information*

About Startup and MSME Registration Support

Many new businesses look at two government registrations early on. Startup India recognition is granted by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) to entities that meet its eligibility criteria. Udyam registration is a self-declaration based registration for micro, small and medium enterprises. They serve different purposes, and a business may qualify for one, both or neither.

We help you understand the current eligibility criteria, check whether your entity type and age fit, prepare the recognition application and the description of your business, and complete Udyam registration where it applies. Recognition decisions are made solely by DPIIT based on its criteria, and we are not affiliated with any government body.

Clarity on what follows

We explain which benefits generally depend on recognition and which need separate applications, such as certain tax exemptions.

Eligibility and Applicability

  • Startup recognition is currently available only to certain entity types, generally private limited companies, LLPs and registered partnership firms
  • The entity must be within the age limit from incorporation or registration set by DPIIT
  • Turnover must not have exceeded the limit currently prescribed by DPIIT in any financial year
  • The business should be working towards innovation or improvement of products, processes or services, or have a scalable model with potential for employment or wealth creation
  • An entity formed by splitting up or reconstructing an existing business is generally not eligible
  • Udyam registration applies to enterprises that fall within the current micro, small or medium classification based on investment and turnover

DPIIT publishes and updates the eligibility criteria and decides every application. Meeting the basic criteria does not ensure recognition. Classification limits for Udyam are also revised from time to time. Please check current criteria on the official portals.

Documents Commonly Required

Entity documents

  • Certificate of incorporation or registration of the entity
  • PAN of the entity (shared securely after onboarding, not on the enquiry form)
  • Details of directors or partners, including contact details

For startup recognition

  • A short write-up on the product or service, the problem it solves and what makes it innovative or scalable
  • Supporting material, such as a pitch deck, website, product demo or photographs, where available
  • Details of any patents, trademarks, awards or funding, where applicable

For Udyam registration

  • Aadhaar of the proprietor, managing partner or authorised signatory
  • Details of investment in plant, machinery or equipment, and turnover
  • Bank account details and business activity codes, shared during the application stage

Document requirements may vary depending on applicant type, location and applicable regulations. We confirm the exact list for your case before you share anything.

Estimated Timeline and Fees

Estimated timeline

Application preparation usually takes 3–7 working days after we receive complete information

The time DPIIT takes to review a recognition application varies and is outside our control. Udyam registration is generally quicker, but depends on portal verification.

Professional fee

Our professional fee depends on whether you need startup recognition support, Udyam registration or both, and on the preparation involved. You receive a written quote before we begin.

Government fees and charges

At present there is generally no government fee for applying for DPIIT recognition or for Udyam registration on the official portals. Please be cautious of anyone presenting a paid service as an official government channel.

* Timelines are indicative. They can change because of document verification, queries raised by the authority and government processing times, which are outside our control. Approval is decided by the relevant authority under applicable rules.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Applying for startup recognition with an entity type that is not eligible, such as a proprietorship
  • Describing the business in vague terms that do not explain its innovation or scalability
  • Assuming recognition automatically brings tax exemptions, which generally need a separate application
  • Entering incorrect investment or turnover figures in Udyam registration
  • Confusing unofficial websites with the official government portals

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you get my business recognised as a startup?

No one other than DPIIT can grant recognition. We help you check eligibility and prepare a clear and complete application, but the decision rests entirely with DPIIT based on its criteria.

Can a proprietorship get Startup India recognition?

Under the current criteria, recognition is generally available to private limited companies, LLPs and registered partnership firms, not proprietorships. A proprietorship can still apply for Udyam registration if it qualifies.

What is the difference between startup recognition and Udyam registration?

Startup recognition is granted by DPIIT to eligible entities working on innovative or scalable businesses. Udyam registration classifies a business as a micro, small or medium enterprise based on investment and turnover. They are separate and serve different purposes.

Does recognition give an income tax exemption?

Not automatically. Certain tax benefits require a separate application and approval under their own conditions. We can explain the current position, and you should confirm the details with your tax adviser.
